Northwest 66, Missouri Southern 34

Northwest Missouri State racked up over 600 yards of total offense and scored two defensive touchdowns on the way to a 66-34 win over Missouri Southern Saturday evening in Joplin.

The Bearcats (3-0) traded early scores with the Lions, including a 68-yard touchdown pass from Braden Wright to Imoni Donadelle just 34 seconds into the game. Tied 7-7 midway through the first quarter, Northwest reeled off 24 consecutive points to take a 31-7 lead.

Southern made a push to get back in the game thanks to a passing attack that threw for 442 yards and three touchdowns, but also included 37 incompletions and six interceptions.

Defensive back Jerrell Green picked off two Southern passes and returned one 11 yards for a touchdown.

Linebacker Braden Dey also recorded his first career interception in the fourth quarter, and he took it back 17 yards for the score.

Braden Wright through for 289 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the win.

Justin Rankin rushed for 150 yards and a score, while also catching four passes for 58 yards.

Donadelle finished the night with a career-best six receptions, 160 yards and two touchdowns.

Backup quarterback Mike Hohensee accounted for 142 all-purpose yards, one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown.

The 'Cats are back home September 28 for a Family Weekend matchup with Central Oklahoma.
